Training
I frequently conduct workshops on using storytelling as a teaching strategy for teachers in both mainstream and special ed. schools. The workshops range from 1 - 6 sessions (of 3 hours each.)  How  can I tailor the training to meet your needs?
My style is highly participatory, and very entertaining. There is plenty of hands-on activity and lots of stories and strategies that can be employed in the classroom.
The main areas of focus:

demonstration of stories told in various ways eg: with puppets, participation; props; paper-cutting, drawing stories; with kamishibai picture cards; personal stories.

opportunities for participants to practice and gain confidence in their own storytelling skills (use of voice, visualisation, gesture, memorisation)

sharing of: practical strategies for use before, during and after your telling to enhance understanding; how to use stories across the curriculum (including maths, science!); and how to apply story- telling in differentiated learning.

It’s important we select which aspects of our teaching we use storytelling for. When it comes to skills relating to handling a ball, probably nothing beats actually kicking, bouncing or throwing it around. However, you can use stories effectively with skills teaching when it comes to learning points such as:

Skills are important and we use the same skills in different ways in different daily activities

How we acquire/improve our skills (train/practice!)

Different people, different skills (good with people, things, or abstracts like ideas/problem solving)

Teams are made up of people with different but complementary skills.

You don’t succeed by your own skill alone – remember the Media Corp ad (behind every star there’s a team of stars - sound, lights, camera, make-up etc)

To do one thing well usually requires other skills too – taking a penalty isn’t just about ball control, but also Concentration + Confidence + Courage.  Why does Tao Li keep winning despite her height disadvantage?

Circumstances change, so we need to learn other skills – Federer & Nadal are examples of players who have changed their game (skills) to counter prolonged bad spells.
