STORYTELLING
AS A TEACHING STRATEGY
The focus this year is largely on SECONDARY teachers.  Their course will address the issues of :
§
What kind of stories do I tell  teenagers?
§
Where do I find such stories?
§
How do I tell them in such a way as to engage their interest?
The course is highly is practical. I’ll share lots of examples  (you can find three here) - and I invite you to give me topics which you’ll be covering so I can find stories that might suit you and your students.

I’ll guide you through  learning a story and practising different to tell it more effectively, as well as sharing strategies you can use during your lessons to make the most of the storytelling.
My style is highly participatory, and very entertaining. There is plenty of hands-on activity and lots of stories and strategies that can be employed in the classroom.
The main areas of focus:
q
demonstration of stories told in various ways eg: with puppets, participation; props; paper-cutting, drawing stories; with kamishibai picture cards; personal stories.
q
opportunities for participants to practice and gain confidence       in their own storytelling skills (use of voice, visualisation, gesture, memorisation)
q
sharing of practical strategies     for use before, during and after your telling to enhance understanding; how to use stories across the curriculum (including maths, science!); and how to apply story- telling in differentiated learning.
