Training
MIME is a beautiful but demanding art form.
The ability to tell stories without words requires students to use their bodies, gestures and facial expressions in simple, precise and creative ways.  It requires control and creativity, particularly when performing in a group, in order to give and take the focus of the scene (where is the audience supposed to be looking at any given moment?)
The trainer, Gohpi Nathan, has spent his whole life communicating visually.                        A former member of Hi! Theatre, Singapore’s ground-breaking Theatre of the Deaf in the 1990’s, he has developed a personable style that is warm and engaging - and highly entertaining.  Crisp, clear and economical in his movement, Gohpi leads by example in his teaching, infusing characters and situations with life - and lots of comedy.
For many students this workshop will be their first time to interact with a “disabled” person (the quotation marks are deliberate) who is talented and has a great sense of humour.  Most students who work with him develop a basic knowledge of sign language, and many enquire about further courses on learning sign.
