FUNNY BUNNY RABBIT
I didn’t know this story until the funny bunny herself brought it into class and persuaded her group to use it. I think their calm sitting on the steps, their understanding of the repetitive structure of the story, the sing-song delivery and the actions are outstanding - and the use of sound effects to wrap up the ending makes it their own. I can only claim credit for creating an atmosphere in which the girls felt safe to be playful and to enjoy their storytelling!
PIG AND BEAR AT THE MARKET
Maggie & Rainbow tell this cautionary tale of entrepreneurial disaster with a tremendous sense of fun. Using the two soft toys was their own idea.
There's a natural sense of spontaneity and improvisation which is remarkable, considering this is their second language.
Poetry often contains a lot of drama! These Form 1 girls explored THE LAMENT OF HSI CHUN from Arthur Waley's classic 170 Chinese Poems.
First they created still images of the back story - from the moment the Princess learnt she was to be married off to a remote King for political reason, through her journey to the distant court, and a life lived isolated and alone. I found the final picture (her remembering the past time when she honoured her parents) very moving.
