This presentation combines traditional stories - such as the Balinese folktale told in the video (as part of the PUB’s World Water Day Celebrations 2011) - with true stories which I have chosen because they feature young people making a significant impact on the environment.
These inspirational youngsters include

Ryan Hreljac from Canada, who began fundraising (by doing household chores) to dig a well in Africa when he was just 6 yrs old. To date, his Foundation has dug wells that provide fresh water to almost one million people in Africa!

William Kamkwamba of Namibia, who at 14 built a windmill from scrap (inspired by a book cover in his library) and has brought power, light and hope to his village;

and Omar Gallegos who, aged 8, walked 800 kilometres to save the Mexican rainforest.

The stories celebrate the beauty of the Earth,
our responsibility towards it,
and offer hope that we can do something
to improve the quality of our planet’s future.
