the TRAINER
A Singaporean storyteller? Yes!
I was born at Changi Hospital, grew up in UK (and spent three holidays at what was then RAF Seletar when my Dad was posted there from 1960-62.) I returned to teach drama at UWC in ‘78 and never left. I took up my Singaporean birthright in 1992.
I left teaching to become Artistic Director of STARS Community Theatre (1986-92) during which time I also founded Hi! Theatre, Singapore’s Theatre of the Deaf (1986-96)
In 1992 I set up Dramaplus Arts Ltd, offering arts education programmes to schools and staging productions. My Bali-themed version of The Tempest (with Lim Kay Siu as Prospero) received a record-setting 8 nominations in the 2001 Life Theatre Awards (including Play of the Year and Best Director) I ran Dramaplus Arts until the day I made the leap to become a full-time storyteller in 2008.
